Home warranty cover

For residential building work over the value set by law, home warranty cover has to be in place before work starts. It protects you if the work is left unfinished or defective and the builder has died, disappeared or become insolvent. In NSW it's called the Home Building Compensation Fund, and your builder must give you the certificate before you pay a deposit. How the ACT and NSW rules compare

Why it matters

What these licences mean for you

Licensing

Building work needs the right licence

In the ACT and NSW, building work has to be done by a builder holding the right licence for that kind of work. In NSW the licence number also has to appear in advertising. Checking the public register takes two minutes and is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself.

Licence class

Commercial work needs a higher class

ACT builder licences come in classes. Class C covers low-rise homes and outbuildings, while most office and shop fit-outs need a Class B or Class A licence. We hold a Class A licence in the ACT, the highest class.

Home warranty

Protection if things go wrong

For residential work over the threshold set by law, home warranty cover is arranged before work starts. In NSW it's called the Home Building Compensation Fund. We'll explain what it covers and give you the certificate.

Trades and safety

Licensed trades, safe sites

Electrical, plumbing, gas and fire services work is done by licensed trades. Our sites run to current WHS rules, with inductions, edge protection and safe work method statements for high-risk work.
